so something like 2 and a half years ago, i made a post gauging interest in an art group but i never went through with the idea.
that being said, i've been logging onto subeta for the past couple of months hoping there would be an art related group but alas, there never is haha. i'm not sure if it's because no one is interested enough to create one or if people are too intimidated to create it (like me!) so i'd like to know again if anyone would be interested? a few years back (by a few i think i mean somewhere in 2010) i co-lead a cult as it was called at the time called avant garde and it was honestly just a huge part of why i loved the site, but unfortunate people got busy with life and it slowly just dissolved.
i'd like to have something more on the casual side, i guess - somewhere cozy for artists to just hang out and share their work or something.
art by To be honest? That'd be cool , a place where we'd share our works and inspirations, maybe get suggestions and critiques and all that! A few months ago I made a thread about collaborative drawing boards... maybe you should even implement drawing sessions if there's enough interest?
yeah i'd basically want something pretty casual, probably some contests here and there. i just wonder how we'd communicate - i think last time discord was probably the most suggested method. the oekaki-like idea is really cool too! although i'd have no idea how to personally get that running lmao.
art by I'd be interested!
Casual is good. I'm bad at small talk.
🌂
i'd be game also! i'm definitely on board for the collab drawing, i remember being involved in that back in the day and it was a lot of fun. i think drawpile is still being used?
i also second like.... a forum for critiques/art help? i know at least that's something i'd find helpful to take part in!
woops, sorry there were no pings so I thought interest wasn't there.
anything in particular any of you would prefer to use for communication? I know discord is big these days but I'm not sure if there are really any other alternatives haha.
(sub'd to the post so i'll see everything now)
art by i'm not a super pro artist or anything but i'd be down to join if that's okay :)
I also would be interested :) I like drawing but am super lazy and critical of everything i do lmao. so having a reminder or lil extra, positive, nudge would be nice!
some of u might be interested in a drawing/artist group? :)
ah, I remember a little of Avant Garde. I've been in a series of rl stuff for.... years now, and many factors have stopped me from creating art (definitely digitally), though I guess I'm dipping back into art by doing fiber/fabric-based art forms. My main concern, as I've experienced with a variety of artist groups on the internet, is that at some level it starts to feel like customer service slog at a retail job, especially if there are people, maybe they're beginning their art journey, who share their stuff and constantly berate their own work, AND they tell you how much they like your stuff (like that's some serious emotional pressure there). Like it's fine to feel negative emotions or demotivated, but constantly expecting or prodding or even (mildly) manipulating people to be your cheerleaders is honestly selfish and despicable in my book, and deters me from continued participation. Maybe if there was a designated art block/art frustration/general negativity hole where nobody is expected to pick others up, that might be fine, and separated from motivation pitches and group activities. Additionally, anything regarding critiques is really finicky (guaranteed, person(s) being unable to handle even modest critiques even if they said they were looking for crit). Modding is nearly impossible unless you put severe limits on (eg. max 15% redlines only) or completely ban public critique. So, I think these are points you should consider when you build up and organize the group.

hh this is a rly cute idea!! i don't think i can really participate in any sort of group chat rn but maybe someday asdfghjkl
thanks for the ping! ❤
I'd 100% be interested in this kind of thing !! (: I use discord for most chat things so I think it'd be a good way to communicate (:
I'd definitely be interested. I need to get back into art and joining a group with other artist, where we can share our work and support each other would be really great!
And as long as the group is kept relatively small and casual, it shouldn't be too difficult to manage~
i totally get that. i personally don't look for critiques, i just keep sketching till it looks right usually lol. xD I also wouldn't want to give them all the time because that sucks the fun out of it. I actually think it would be cool to have a thread/chat that doesn't allow comments and is just for posting our works in progress or sketches on the daily. just an idea tho. like i said i'm lazy of my art and critical so i don't want it to be judged lmao i just want to feel motivated to do it and not have to care about skill level. having a place to put it every day with other people might be the kick i need to work on it again.
I'm kinda the same way. I'm in. I need to polish my art skills. I'm down for an art group, and I'm fine with discord. :)

Yes yes yes !!! I've been creeping around looking for something like this forever. Haven't been a part of anything since Mangabullet and I desperately miss being part of an Art Community™ of sorts. ): (I was never very Active in the extroverted sense but being a part of something always made me create & expand more.)
Also I'm not used to discord but I've got one so that's cool. v:
I’m down for something casual. I love drawing and art but never have time for anything outside of sketches due to real life, might not be super active because of this. Discord is good.

Alright since there seems to be some interested, I've been spending a few days trying to figure out how to go about it.
So far: - I'll make a discord (unless anyone has other ideas of communicating) there can be a space to share art, critiques, social media advertising. We can definitely add more as we go along! - I'll look into the oekaki stuff that's been mentioned throughout the thread. - I would personally also like to keep the group small, probably under 25 or so people?
The group is intended to be pretty casual so I don't know if it's necessary to have applications although I'm more than willing to hear opinions on this.
Also what does everyone think of the name "Meraki"? I found it a while ago, it means: "This is a word that modern Greeks often use to describe doing something with soul, creativity, or love — when you put “something of yourself” into what you're doing, whatever it may be."
Phew, all that said, I will get to making it tonight. Thank you everyone, and sorry for the wait. c:
art by Heyaa, I'm interested in the group as well :D

Hi :3 I’m actually really interested in something like this, a small group of artists with various talents who seem to understand social anxiety&boundaries, and also don’t like small talk?? Everything I need XD (I may have just made a Discord I’m that excited.. lol)
